Behind the Scenes

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will host its Fantasy Camp for adult amateur musicians July 21. The daylong event at Kleinhans Music Hall includes rehearsing and performing alongside the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and finishes with a side-by-side concert conducted by Matthew Kraemer. The camp includes sectional coaching sessions from members of the BPO, a behind-the-scenes tour of Kleinhans Music Hall and opportunities to get to know the musicians. Amateur musicians older than 25 are invited to apply. The tuition is $295, and the deadline for applications is June 15. Musical Theatre Workshop of Niagara, a developing theater organization, will hold auditions next Friday and June 9 for a seven-week workshop for students ages 13 through 22. Vocal auditions will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. next Friday, and dance auditions will be held from noon to 3 p.m. June 9. Chorus Niagara Children's Choir of St. Catharines, Ont., is seeking applicants for the position of artistic director. Responsibilities include auditioning children; training choristers in choral instruction and basic theory through weekly rehearsals; performance planning; conducting at least two concerts per season; and attending parent meetings. Applicants should have a music degree, past experience in conducting children's choirs and a background in children's voice production. Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae and three references. The ABC Bel Canto Choirs will hold open auditions for the 2012-13 season. The choir is made up of three divisions: presto (boys and girls in grades 3-6), vivace (boys and girls treble voices in grades 6-12) and bravo (boys with changed voices and girls in grades 9-12).
