VETERANS AFFAIRS INFORMATION SESSIONS: The VA Western New York Healthcare System has scheduled two events in Chautauqua County to help veterans learn about VA health care and other benefits. The sessions will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, 166 E. Fourth St., Dunkirk; and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, 608 W. Third St., Jamestown. CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION: Penn Dixie will host Celebrate Children's Day 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundayat the Penn Dixie Site, 4050 North St., Blasdell. The event will have special treats for children and their families: Tilly the Trilobite will greet visitors; Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center will have live birds; rocket launches will be conducted by "Rocket Rich" Spencer at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.; face-painting; fossil-collecting and fossil contests for children with prizes; telescopes for viewing sunspots and solar flares;, fossil, rock and mineral identification. The public is welcome, and no preregistration is required. The cost is $7 for adults; $6 for children 12 and under; and free for children 2 and under and Penn Dixie members. SHINGLES VACCINATION INFORMATION SESSION: The Cheektowaga Senior Center is hosting a shingles vaccination information session, sponsored by Rite Aid Pharmacy, at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the center, 3349 Broadway. Seniors who have had chicken pox are at risk for shingles. Seniors can make an appointment for the shingles vaccination clinic, being held at 9 a.m. June 28 at the center.
