Funeral arrangements have been announced for a soldier found fatally stabbed in his living quarters at Fort Riley, Kan., last Sunday.
A funeral with full military honors for Army Pvt. Thomas M. Lavrey will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Comfort Funeral Home, 6469 Olean Road, South Wales.
Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
The West Seneca native was found unresponsive before being pronounced dead at the Irwin Army Community Hospital, the base facility. He was 21.
Pvt. Lavrey joined the Army in 2010, and most recently served as utilities equipment repairman for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Infantry Division.
Before joining the Army, Pvt. Lavrey attended Pioneer Central School District, ultimately obtaining his GED.
Pvt. Lavrey's family could not be reached Saturday and further details about the circumstances of his death were unavailable.
The Army's Criminal Investigative Division has said only that there is an investigation into the death of Pvt. Lavrey, whose Facebook page lists him as a resident of Machias, Cattaraugus County.
The soldier had been expected to visit home in July.
He is survived by his father, Dale M.; mother, Carrie Vassar; a sister, Jessica Ann; and two brothers, Nicholas McNally and Kyle Vanderbush.
