Fatal shooting believed to be connected to drugs

A young man died Saturday afternoon after being shot at Massachusetts and Shields avenues in an attack police sources believe is drug related.

The victim, 19, was shot about 1:45 p.m. and taken to Buffalo General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Motorcyclist injured in crash linked to DWI

A motorcyclist was injured when he was struck by a drunken driver who was pulling into his own driveway overnight Friday, Orchard Park police said.

Shortly after midnight Friday, Jason Garey, 30, who was driving an SUV, was making a left turn into his driveway on Abbott Road, near Elmtree Road, when he struck the motorcyclist, Michael Hruschak, 51, of Blasdell.

Hruschak suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center.

After the collision, Garey tried to go into his home, investigators said.

Garey was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated after his blood-alcohol content was determined to be 3 1/2 times the legal limit.

He also was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident and failure to yield the right of way.


Felony DWI charge lodged against Irving man

An Irving man who was driving with a suspended license because of a drunken-driving conviction was arrested early Saturday on a felony count of driving while intoxicated, state police said.

Robert Warrior, 34, of Railroad Avenue, was stopped on Old Lakeshore Road by a trooper who had been helping the Erie County Sheriff's Office clear an area following a large fight.

Police said they suspected Warrior was involved in the brawl and pulled him over.

Warrior failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI, police said. The charge was upgraded to a felony because of a previous DWI conviction.

He refused a blood test, police added.


4 held on weapons charges as gun is tossed from car

Four Buffalo men are being held on weapons charges after a loaded .38-caliber revolver that was defaced was tossed from a car at East Delavan and Courtland avenues just before midnight Thursday.

Anthony McBridge, 24; Nikolas A. Alexander, 19; Brandon T. Hall, 22; and Jesse J. Buchanan, 20, were arrested about 11:48 p.m. after officers saw the revolver thrown from the car, police said. The revolver's serial number was removed, police added.


Vehicle in ditch leads to aggravated DWI charge

A Buffalo woman was charged with aggravated DWI after being found in her vehicle in a ditch on Seneca Street near Northstar Road about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, state police said.

Police say Danielle C. Sansanese, 37, posted a blood-alcohol content of 0.19 percent.


Port Colborne man tied to April 19 house break-in

PELHAM, Ont. -- A Port Colborne man arrested Saturday is accused of the April 19 break-in at a Pelham house.

Robert Johnson, 34, was charged with break, enter and commit, possession of stolen property under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and breach of probation. An investigation by the Welland Street Crime Unit led to stolen items being recovered at a store in Welland, authorities said.


Bid to steal wad of bills backfires for city woman

A Guernsey Street woman is accused of attempting to steal a large roll of 50-, 20- and 10-dollar bills from a man in a parking lot at Hertel and Elmwood avenues about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Tiffany Scroggins, 29, is being held on a charge of attempted robbery. She was arrested about five hours after the crime, police said.


Alleged house stormer caught near crime scene

A Buffalo man is being held on attempted burglary and criminal mischief charges for trying to kick in a window and a door at a residence in the 700 block of Elmwood Avenue late Thursday, Buffalo police said.

Jorge Pachetti, 33, was arrested as he tried to flee about 11:10 p.m., police said.
