'Little things' mean a lot
If the weather takes you to Erie Basin Marina today, consider stopping by Templeton Landing between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for some travel freebies and advice -- and a cookie.
DoubleTree by Hilton is hosting the event in response to feedback it has received about "the little things" that travelers say mean the most to them. You don't have to be a tourist to share in the offered deals on local attractions and enjoy a chocolate chip cookie.
Making note of what guests really want, the site will also have free Wi-Fi and a place for people to plug in and recharge their cellphones and other devices.
If you want to add to the suggestions, visit the DoubleTree by Hilton Facebook page, where you can also enter the Little Things Project Sweepstakes.
A wash for Wags
Pooches and pups can get cleaned up -- and support a cause -- from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the corner of St. Gregory Court and Bassett Road across from Bassett Park in Williamsville. Employees of Emeritus Senior Living, with the help of volunteers, will be running a "dog wash" (complete with wash AND dry), for a donation of $5 per pet.
Follow the bath by enjoying, or sharing a hot dog -- on sale with pop -- and check out the items in the basket raffle.
All money raised will go to the Alzheimer's Association of Western New York.
