Man accused in gas station swindle

East Aurora police arrested a man last week whom they believe is a serial flimflammer who swindled clerks out of cash at area stores.

Bryan A. Warr, 54, of Buffalo, has been charged with two counts of petit larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana. He is also wanted on two outstanding warrants for similar charges in Ontario County. More charges are expected to be filed as well.

Investigators said a clerk at a village gas station called police Thursday evening, saying a man had made a purchase using a $50 bill, then confused the clerk by asking for change several times. The man then left with $50 extra in change.

Police spotted the suspect and the car in which he was believed to have fled driving past the gas station.

Officers pulled the car over, and the passenger, Warr, admitted to police that he had swindled the clerk and said he may have pulled the same stunt at two other stores.

Police said they found "several hundred dollars" on Warr. He was arraigned in Town Court and sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $5,000 bail.
