Angelo continues to win

Four former champions still have a chance to add another title to their collections during the 49th George A. Obenauer Masters on Friday night at Transit Lanes, but Brad Angelo has a little more margin for error than the others.

Angelo, who's also won on the PBA Tour, defeated former Obie champ Mike Hanes of Niagara Falls, 644-603, during the late shift of Friday's match-play portion of the tournament. Angelo will face Jeff Tycz of Cheektowaga in a winners bracket match tonight.

The tournament resumes with once-beaten bracket matches at 6:45 p.m., and former Obie champs and current PBA Tour regulars Jack Jurek and Joe Ciccone will be among those trying to run the table to win the tournament. Jurek, who cruised to victory in his early match Friday, dropped a 652-573 decision to Tycz. Ciccone lost 638-613 to Justin Hart.

Also in the winners bracket, North Tonawanda's John Szczerbinski rolled a three-game high 739 in his win over Mike Mallwitz of Grand Island.
