Zipporah Eaton, a retired coordinator with the Community Action Organization, died Tuesday in Rosa Coplon Nursing Home. She was 99.
Born in Thomasville, Ala., Mrs. Eaton moved to Buffalo in 1939 after her marriage to Clarke Eaton Sr.
She received her bachelor's degree in education from Medaille College at age 62.
Mrs. Eaton worked as an educational coordinator in the Community Action Organization's Wider Horizons Reading Tutorial Program.
After her retirement in 1986, she served as a volunteer in the Buffalo Public Schools' EPIC Program (Every Person Influences Children) at School 59. She was a foster grandparent who read to primary grade children twice weekly.
For more than 60 years, she had been an active member of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, now Humboldt Parkway Baptist Church, where she was the church secretary for 27 years.
Her husband of 49 years died in 1986.
She is survived by a son, Clarke Jr., and two daughters, Elizabeth Waller and Cynthia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Humboldt Parkway Baptist Church, 790 Humboldt Parkway, after a wake at 10.
