Chris TrapperWho?: Now a seasoned solo artist living and working in Boston, Mass., the Amherst-born singer/songwriter was the leader of the famed 1990s alt-pop trio the Push Stars. His latest solo release, "Few and Far Between," features cameos from the likes of Rob Thomas, Colin Hay and Kristen Cifelli.
What?: Trapper will be joined by opener Nick Young for a show that begins at 7 tonight in the Ninth Ward at Babeville (341 Delaware Ave.). Tickets are $18 (box office, Tickets.com).
Why?: Trapper has shown consistent growth and increased depth in the songwriting department, from his earliest days fronting alt-rock outfit Awake and Dreaming, through his folk-funk-pop hybrid with the Push Stars, and now as he hits his full stride as a solo artist. His supple melodies, keen, incisive and compelling lyrics, and warm, intimate tenor make him a modern singer-songwriter of the highest order.
