Five Questions with Thomas Loughran

Every Sunday, we'll publish a quick Q&A with someone from the local political world. Instead of touching on the latest in policy issues and proposed legislation, the intent is to catch a glimpse of the person behind the title. The interviews are done via email.

The Questions:
What's one thing people don't know about you?
My parents raised nine children. I grew up in the middle. This was a great training ground for politics.

Your biography said you ran in the San Diego Marathon in support of Leukemia Lymphoma Research. Are you a runner?
Yes, I also ran the Buffalo Marathon in 2011 with my family for Team in Training to support Leukemia Lymphoma Research. I am presently training with my family for the Orchard Park Half-Marathon.

When you are not at your restaurant, Loughran's Bar and Restaurant in Amherst, where do you like to eat out?
Buffalo has lots of great restaurants. My favorites are Sienna, Tabree, Russell's Steak House and Lombardo's.

Who is your political hero?
Martin Luther King Jr. is my political hero. He had the courage to stand up to injustice in a nonviolent way no matter what the cost.

What's the worst part of your job?
It is a privilege to have a seat at the table, but I must admit, sometimes, it can be frustrating trying to build a consensus for the best interest of our constituents.
