Dorothy V. Nykiel, 92, longtime buyer for AM&A's; Oct. 10, 1919 -- Jan. 22, 2012

A memorial Mass for Dorothy V. Nykiel, a buyer for Adam Meldrum & Anderson department store for more than 40 years, will be offered at 10 a.m. today in St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St. She died Jan. 22 in Hyannis, Mass., where she had lived since 2003. She was 92.

Born Dorothy Nadratowski in Buffalo, she traveled extensively as an AM&A's buyer to New York City, Europe and the Far East. She purchased glass, gifts and lamps for the store.

Mrs. Nykiel was an usher at the Saturday evening Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral and served 10 years as a docent at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site. In Hyannis, she was a docent for six years at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Museum, where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2005.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith St. John, and a brother, Eugene Norton.
