University at Buffalo associate professor emeritus Dr. John Eisner received the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry. Eisner had a transformative impact on dental education with the development of information management systems that have been used in admissions and course/student evaluations in dental education.

Dr. Roger Triftshauser, a UB alumnus and orthodontist, received the 2012 Paragon Award from the American Student Dental Association. Triftshauser, while at UB's School of Dental Medicine, was responsible for involving the American College of Dentists in implementing a course on ethics that is now part of the freshman introductory curriculum.

Merchants Insurance Group corporate casualty claims manager Ken Carter was named the Insurance/TPA Litigation Management Professional of the Year at the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance annual conference in San Diego. He was chosen because of his contributions to the profession and to the service of Merchants and its clients. In addition to this award, Carter was recently presented the 2011 Merchants Insurance Group President's Award, the highest honor the company gives to an outstanding employee.

The inaugural class of the WNY Consortium of Higher Education's Women's Leadership Institute, composed of 42 participants from 18 member institutions, was recently honored at a celebration in the University at Buffalo's Center for Tomorrow. It is one of only a few leadership programs nationally specifically for women in higher education and represents the commitment of the WNY Consortium of Higher Education to collaboratively elevate women to leadership positions within and among its institutions and nationally.
