The Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau will present the second annual Beacon Awards, honoring excellence in the Buffalo Niagara travel and tourism industry, to the following May 10 in the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center:

Lodging Employee of the Year, Michael Hicks, Comfort Suites Downtown; Lodging Manager of the Year, Kevin Hudson, Hyatt Regency Buffalo; Lodging General Manager of the Year, Shelly Cieslak, Fairfield Inn and Suites; Tourism Employee of the Year, Eric Guzdek, Northtown Center in Amherst; Tourism Executive of the Year, Drew Cerza, National Buffalo Wing Festival; Tourism Initiative of the Year, Garden Walk Buffalo; Tourism Volunteer of the Year, Linda Adams, Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House Complex; and Buffalo Ambassador of the Year, National Preservation Conference Local Organizing Committee.

In addition, Tim Russert was recognized posthumously as the first inductee into the Buffalo Ambassador Hall of Fame.

ERA Team VP Real Estate broker Bill Soffel was recognized as one of the nation's top ERA brokers by global real estate leader ERA Franchise Systems at the recent 2012 ERA International Business Conference in New Orleans.

Soffel accepted the President's Circle designation for superior performance on behalf of ERA Team VP Real Estate of Ellicottville. Also, Tina Dillon and Cathy Pritchard were each awarded a Leaders' Circle designation, and Amy DeTine and Melanie Pritchard were each awarded a Beyond Excellence designation. The designations recognize the ERA network's top producers for excellence in real estate sales.

Jamestown Mattress Co., a family-owned manufacturer and retailer, is celebrating the opening of its 10th showroom at 6412 S. Transit Road in Lockport. Each mattress produced in the company's Jamestown factory is made to order. In addition, the company offers special-sized mattresses for antique beds, as well as for boats and campers.

Rich Products Corp. recently sponsored Canisius College Students in Free Enterprise's Classroom and Community Partnership for Economic Development Program, offering a $30,000 loan to be used as a student-managed microloan initiative for small business startups. As a result, Kaji Sunwar was able to open Sagarmatha Groceries, at 489 Grant St., Buffalo.

Carleton Technologies, Orchard Park, was awarded a $102,000 federal contract for parachutist bailout systems, from the U.S. Air Combat Command, Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz.

Moog Inc., East Aurora, was awarded a $577,908 federal contract for the maintenance, repair and rebuilding of equipment from the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.
