James A. LaBarbera, a sixth-grade teacher of math and social studies in the Grand Island schools, died unexpectedly Sunday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda. He was 61.
A native of North Tonawanda, Mr. LaBarbera moved to Wheatfield six years ago. His teaching career spanned more than 39 years.
He was a third-degree member of Madonna Council 2535, Knights of Columbus, in North Tonawanda.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Fetes; two sons, Nicholas and Scott; two brothers, Paul and Daniel; and two sisters, Susan Zobrist and Sharon Mills.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church, Oliver Street and Center Avenue, North Tonawanda.
