HUMAN TRAFFICKING: Western New York and its role in human trafficking is the subject of a seminar at Hilbert College, from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Western New York is viewed as a center of human trafficking because of its border crossings and combination of large urban centers and vast rural areas.
HOMELESS FUNDRAISER: Family Promise of WNY, a nonprofit that provides temporary shelter and services to homeless families, is sponsoring a book-signing fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of Brighton Community Church, 1225 Brighton Road, Town of Tonawanda. Featured are local authors. A portion of each sale benefits Family Promise, which works with faith-based and other organizations to address the plight of homeless families.
