Deaconess items to go on block; Equipment, tools, beds to be sold

Want to buy a nursing home bed? Commercial kitchen wares? How about dental devices?

Cash Cunningham's Cash Realty & Auctions will sell off a host of health care-related equipment from the former Deaconess Center in Buffalo at a public auction to be held at the facility at 1001 Humboldt Parkway in Buffalo.

The sale, to be held Wednesday at 10 a.m., is believed to be the largest health care-related auction in decades.

Items up for sale include furniture, medical and dental equipment, patient beds, food service items and equipment, maintenance equipment and tools, among other things. Many items are less than seven years old. A preview of the inventory will be held at 8:30 a.m. the day of the auction.

Payments are due immediately at the auction, and all proceeds will benefit patient care at HighPointe on Michigan, the newly built Kaleida Health nursing home on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

That long-term care facility represents the consolidation of the 242-bed Deaconess Center -- a hospital that closed in 1986 but served as a Kaleida nursing home until it closed in December -- and the 75-bed skilled-nursing unit at the now-closed Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital.
