The Rochester Americans won their last regular-season game of the 2011-12 season on Saturday night in Cleveland, beating the Lake Erie Monsters, 2-1. That didn't help clarify their playoff position.
The Amerks needed either a regulation loss by Milwaukee or Charlotte or any type of loss by Houston. None of that happened Saturday night.
Therefore, Rochester will sit at home today and wait for results to see how the scrambled playoff race shakes down.
In Saturday's game, Luke Adam scored the game-winning goal with less than 16 minutes left in the third period.
Canada captures title
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Caroline Ouellette scored 1:50 into overtime, lifting Canada to a 5-4 win over the United States in the gold medal game of the Women's World Championship Saturday.
Canada earned the gold medal for the 10th time and stopped a streak of three U.S. titles.
Meghan Agosta, whose power play goal late in regulation forced overtime, took advantage of a Team USA turnover at the blue line, fed Ouellette in the high slot and she snapped it past Molly Schaus.
The Americans had outscored their foes, 38-2, in four previous games.
