Dick Beyer, whose professional wrestling success led to international stardom working under a mask as the Destroyer and Doctor X, and his writing partner, Vince Evans, announced that their book, "Masked Decisions," will be enshrined in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame memorabilia display at First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo on April 21. The following day, a book signing will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the Destroyer Museum located inside PE Personal Training, 99 Main St., Akron.
Copies of their book, which is Beyer's biography, will be available for purchase at the end of the event and in advance at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. The week will culminate on April 26 with a ceremony at Ilio DiPaolo's Restaurant in Depew. the Consul General of Japan in New York, ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, will bestow the 2012 Consul General's Commendation upon Beyer for "extraordinary contributions by playing a role as a bridge between Japan and the United States in sports and long-time contributions to social welfare activities in Japan."
FOOTBALL: Buffalo State coach Jerry Boyes, staff and players will present a free coaching clinic April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Houston Gym on the Buffalo State campus. The clinic will feature position drills with players to improve playing techniques. The WNY Coaches' Association will present their Coach of the Year awards. The clinic is open to all area youth, high school and college coaches. Call 901-5615. Nichols School is seeking an experienced modified football coach. SOFTBALL: Malone's Softball League has openings for men and coed teams. Call Malone's at 875-2020. Teams are needed to complete the South Buffalo softball slow pitch league. BOWLING: The Hamburg American Legion Post No. 527 10th annual spring doubles tournament at Hamburg Legion Lanes will be held April 21-29. Cost is $25 per team. Contact Jim at 649-0940 for times.
