Sean Scherer, the artist, former Buffalonian and (unlikely as it may have seemed some years ago) interior designer to the stars, will be the subject of a solo exhibition opening Saturday in Nina Freudenheim Gallery (140 North St.) Scherer's most recent body of work consists of drawings and paintings that, according to a release from the gallery, dispense with the formality of his earlier work and seem to contain "a kinetic energy and violence."
"The paintings continue Sean's investigation into the antecedents of abstraction, but with a new energy and emphasis on mark making and expression," the release reads. "The motifs of both the drawings and paintings recall systems in flux, at once collapsing but also regenerating."
The exhibition opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Saturday and runs through May 17. For more information, call 882-5777 or visit www.ninafreudenheimgallery.org.
