Independent Health appointed John Mineo senior vice president, general counsel. Mineo oversees the legal and compliance departments. Previously senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at First Niagara Financial Group, he earned his bachelor's degree, JD, and MBA from the University at Buffalo.

Albert F. Stager Inc., a statewide property and casualty independent insurance adjusting firm in Orchard Park, promoted Robert A. Herington vice president of the corporation. Herington began with firm in 1974 as a property loss adjuster and has served the group as its general manager and assistant vice president since 1991.

ElderWood Senior Care's senior director of human resources Lavera Johnson was named Public Citizen of the Year by the New York State Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Johnson serves or has served as a board member for Nichols School, the Buffalo Urban League, the Workforce Investment Board of Buffalo and Erie County and Leadership Buffalo. In 2002, she became a board member for Sheehan Health Network and was named board president in 2007. In addition, she is an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church and a member of its racial justice committee.

Merrill Lynch promoted Stephen M. Nosek to senior vice president. Nosek is part of the Nosek/Hahn/Scott Wealth Management Team in the Williamsville office. A Canisius College graduate, he received his MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Canisius College Accounting Society will honor Donald R. Fishback, vice president and chief financial officer of Moog Inc., as the outstanding accountant in Western New York at its56th annual banquet on Wednesday, April 25 at Salvatore's Italian Gardens. Fishback joined the internal audit division at Moog in 1981 after starting his career with Deloitte in 1978, where he earned his CPA. In 2010, Fishback was named vice president and chief financial officer. The society will also recognize Joseph P. Dunleavy, partner with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, with the Dr. Joseph R. Coppola Award, which recognizes the exceptional achievements of a Canisius College accounting alumnus.

Catholic Medical Partners, a network of independent practicing physicians in Erie and Niagara counties, named Dr. Thomas DeGrave chairman of its board of directors for 2012. The Roycroft Campus Corporation named Jay Hennig president of its board of directors. He replaces Doug Swift who served as president for seven years. Hennig joined the organization within the last year. He has worked in various aspects of Moog's diverse business groups and is currently the president for the Space and Defense Group.

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants will present Joseph M. Falbo Jr. with its special recognition award at the Society's 115th annual election meeting in New York on May 10. Falbo is a tax partner at Tronconi Segarra and Associates in Buffalo. He has served as secretary/treasurer and finance committee chair, Buffalo chapter president, president-elect and vice president and the chair of its technology committee and a member of its membership and young CPAs committees.

The Legal Aid of Buffalo has named William F. Coughlin supervising attorney of its criminal division. He will oversee the criminal defense and appeals units. Coughlin previously served as managing attorney of Legal Aid's felony office. He also teaches criminal law at Fredonia State College. In addition, he currently holds a seat in the Chautauqua County Legislature and is co-owner of the Brick Room restaurant in Fredonia.

SKM Group, a marketing communications agency in Depew, named Jill Kroll media buyer and Jonathan Koziol traffic manager. Kroll previously served as a junior media buyer at Butler/Till. Kroll earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin--La Crosse. Koziol, a graduate of Brockport State College, previously worked as a traffic manager at Entercom Buffalo.
