New Trustee Kathy Seufert King was sworn in Wednesday at the Blasdell Village Board's annual reorganizational meeting and said she would try to "work in the best interests of the village."
In addition, Mayor Michael Petrie named Seufert King as the departmental board contact for the Department of Public Works and the Zoning Board.
He also reappointed Lou McDonald as deputy mayor and Janet Plarr as village administrator, each for one year. Plarr's position as village clerk-treasurer was reaffirmed for a term of two years.
At the regular board meeting that followed, Plarr said all equipment is up and fully operational at the Silver Street and JFK playgrounds. However, at Firemen's Park on Lake Avenue, the playground swings will not be in place until after June 1.
The administrator said the swings were too old and unsafe to use and, for financial reasons, the village is waiting until the new fiscal year to purchase the four replacement swings.
In other matters:
*The Village Farmers' Market has been given a tentative start date of June 27. It will be held in the parking lot of Ilio DiPaolo's Restaurant on the Miller Avenue side.
*Tax bills will be sent to residents the week of April 16. They can be paid anytime after June 1 but must be submitted no later than July 1 to avoid a late penalty.
*The mayor said he met with Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz concerning funds promised to reconstruct Lake Avenue and was told the county does not have the money to do it. He said the village plans to continue efforts to get the town's main thoroughfare redone.
