Manley B. Tillou, engineer, ski patrol volunteer; Feb. 20, 1934 -- Feb. 11, 2012

Manley B. Tillou, an engineer at several local firms, died Feb. 11 in Tidewell Hospice of Venice, Fla. He was 77.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Tillou graduated from Bennett High School and earned a mechanical engineering degree from Clarkson University and an MBA from the University of Buffalo.

After graduating from UB, Mr. Tillou began his career at Hewitt-Robbins and then went to work at Westinghouse as a project engineer.

For 23 years, Mr. Tillou was director of engineering at Arcata Graphics in Depew until he retired in 1990.

An avid golfer, he was a longtime member and past president of Cherry Hill Golf Club in Ridgeway, Ont.

He also spent 13 years as a volunteer with the National Ski Patrol at Holiday Valley.

Mr. Tillou was a longtime member of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and a vice president of the Karma Engineering Society while at Clarkson University. He also was an active member of the Research and Engineering Council of the Graphics Arts Industry.

Surviving are his wife, the former Deborah Matthews; two sons, Kenneth and Michael; three daughters, Alice Gurney, Anne and Karen; and two brothers, Peter and Dana.

Friends may express their condolences from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Roycroft Inn, East Aurora.
