Parkside turns 100

Parkside Lutheran Church at 2 Wallace Ave. will celebrate its centennial with a 100th anniversary worship service at 3 p.m. March 11.

The congregation, formed as an offshoot of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, first met in what is now the Fairfield Library.

Bishop Marie C. Jerge of the Upstate New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will give the sermon.


Novenas for St. Joseph

Novenas in honor of St. Joseph will be held March 11 through March 19 in St. Joseph University Church, 3269 Main St., and in the Carmelite Monastery, 75 Carmel Road. Services in St. Joseph University Church will begin daily at 7 p.m. with opening prayer, followed by reflections on St. Joseph, recitation of St. Joseph Rosary chaplet prayers and closing prayers. Call 833-0298 ext. 315 for details.

At the monastery, services also will start at 7 p.m. with the rosary, followed by Mass.


Salahudeen elected

Masjid Darus-Salaam has elected Imam Jawaad Salahudeen as spiritual leader of the East Side Muslim congregation, which meets at 75 East Parade St.

Salahudeen succeeds Haamid Abd-al-Azeem, founder of the masjid, who died in December.
