Francis H. Ryan of Williamsville, a retired mechanic and active volunteer fireman, died Monday at home. He was 93.
He was born in Auburn, where he graduated from high school.
Mr. Ryan was employed at several jobs during his career. He was a truck mechanic for Upstate Milk Cooperative and other dairies for more than 20 years. He also worked at H.R. Heffernan Electrical Contracting, Bell Aircraft, J.C. Crosby Lincoln Mercury Dealer and Kirchmeyer Motors Lincoln Mercury Dealer.
After his official retirement in 1987, Mr. Ryan worked as a sales associate for Valu Home Centers until 2007.
Mr. Ryan was a member of several organizations, including the Main-Transit Volunteer Fire Company, which he joined in 1962. He was vice president of the Exempts for four years and a past vice president of Main Transit Benevolent Organization.
He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
His wife of 45 years, the former Catherine Prenevau, died in 1998.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret K. Smith; three sons, Francis H. Jr., Dennis J. and John W. II; and a sister, Helen Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Gregory the Great Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, Amherst.
