Cheektowaga glove manufacturer Manzella Productions has been acquired by Totes Isotoner in a deal that will result in some of the local firm's shipping and office work being shifted to Cincinnati.
Anthony Manzella, who founded the local company in 1982 and continues to serve as its general manager after the sale, declined to say how many of the company's 35 to 40 jobs in Cheektowaga would be lost. "It will affect a number of people," he said, adding that the affected workers already have been notified. "We're in an integration period now."
Manzella Productions' shipping and receiving, and some of its administrative work, will be moved to Cincinnati, he said. Manzella's production, design and development work, along with its sourcing, marketing, sales and customer service departments, will remain in the Buffalo Niagara region. The company does not make gloves in Cheektowaga.
Manzella Productions' current facility, a 40,000-square-foot building at 80 Sonwill Drive, has been put up for sale, with an asking price of $1.675 million. The company currently is looking for a new site for its local office, Manzella said. "We'd like to stay in the general area," he said.
The sale to Totes Isotoner was completed in September. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Totes Isotoner executives said at the time that they felt Manzella, which designs gloves for outdoor, snow sports, work wear and casual markets, was an "excellent fit" for its outdoor products line.
