WEIGH IN -- All the mystery items weigh a pound at St. Bernard's annual Pound Auction Saturday evening in the Parish Hall, 1988 Clinton St. Doors open at 5. Bidding starts at 6. Admission is $3 and includes cake and coffee.

The Shriners of Western New York hold their spring meat raffle at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Shrine Center, 1600 Southwestern Blvd., West Seneca. Admission is $2 and includes beer, pop and sandwiches.


BOOKS AND MORE -- The North Tonawanda History Museum, 54 Webster St., will hold its Winter Used Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Paperback books are 50 cents, or three for $1. Hardcover books are $1 each, or three for $2. A bag of books is $5.

At 2 p.m., the museum also presents an hourlong video, "Whispers of Angels: A Story of the Underground Railroad," a documentary about the fight to end slavery, featuring Ed Asner and Blair Underwood.


TODAY'S CATCH -- It's Friday. It's Lent. Time for Lenten fish dinners. Here are a few that we've heard about:

*Alden Meals on Wheels, 12482 Broadway, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Krolick's Fish Fry, $9.95, includes coleslaw, potato salad, roll and dessert -- fresh-made pie by Meals on Wheels. Drive-through only.

*St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 616 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Breaded or baked fish, or shrimp, $9, with choice of potato and coleslaw. Desserts are available. Every Friday through March 30.

*St. Lawrence Church Hall, 1520 E. Delavan Ave., 4 to 7 p.m. Krolick's fish fry, $9. Also theme trays and raffles.

*Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School, 601 McKinley Parkway, 4 to 7 p.m. Parents Guild fish fry by BW's of Blasdell, $9 haddock with french fries, coleslaw and rye bread, $6 kids meals with chicken fingers.

*St. Simon's Episcopal Church, 200 Cazenovia St., 4 to 7 p.m. Fish dinners, $9 adults, $8 takeouts, $5 kids under 12. Desserts $1. Every Friday through March 30.

*St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton St., West Seneca, 4 to 7 p.m. Fish fry by BW's Smokin Barrels Barbecue, $9, includes french fries and coleslaw. Chicken finger dinner, $7, includes fries and carrots. Proceeds benefit the building fund.

*Windom Community Church, 3766 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, 5 to 7 p.m. Breaded or broiled fish, chicken fingers, shrimp. Dinners include french fries, macaroni, coleslaw, bread and butter and dessert. Every Friday through April 6.


LICKIN' GOOD -- Faith United Methodist Church, 5505 Broadway, Lancaster, will host a pulled pork barbecue by the Misfits of Meat beginning at noon Sunday in the church's Fellowship Hall. Dinners are $9 advance, $10 at the door. Dinners include home-style potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, corn bread and homemade desserts. For info, call 683-5293.
