Charles Barney, a retired Roswell Park Cancer Institute pharmacist, died Friday after an accidental fall in a Finger Lakes gorge. He was 58.
He was born in Plattsburgh and grew up in Rouses Point. He graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central High School in Champlain in 1971. Mr. Barney studied pharmacy at the University at Buffalo, graduating in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree.
He began his career as a pharmacist at St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga, and later worked at Sheehan Memorial Hospital. He was a pharmacist at Roswell Park for 21 years before he retired in 2008.
Mr. Barney was an avid photographer and enjoyed nature, hiking and reading.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, the former Laurie Campbell; a son, Lance Cpl. Andrew; and a daughter, Caitlin Fritsch.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul Episcopal Church, 4275 Harris Hill Road, Clarence.
