Francis "Nick" Nicholas, of Akron, president and co-owner of Excel Industries, died unexpectedly Sunday. He was 70.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1959 graduate of Clarence High School and earned a degree in business in 1963 from Clarkson College of Technology.
He joined Excel, a precision machine shop started by his father and located since 1951 on Main Street in Newstead. He also was part-owner of the family's other business, the Links at Ivy Ridge, a golf course in Akron.
Mr. Nicholas was a member of First United Methodist Church in Akron. A sports enthusiast, he was a former Little League coach and enjoyed boating and golfing.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Susan Goehle; two sons, Todd A. and Craig; a daughter, Kathy Chubb; two brothers, Donald and John; and a sister, Diana Fiske.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, 7 Church St., Akron.
