Five Spot / Quick hitters on the light side

1. TURN IT UP

Patriots receiver Chad Ochocinco spent $28,000 buying new headphones for his teammates. His fellow Patriots enthusiastically accepted the gift, if only because they won't have to listen to him talk as much.

2. A BIT PREOCCUPIED

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said on his arrival in Indianapolis Sunday: "This is the nicest I've ever seen it here in February." Uh, Bill, you might want to take a look at the calendar.

3. SMELL OF SUCCESS

Syracuse backup QB Terrel Hunt was arrested on petty larceny charges for stealing a $44 bottle of cologne. Apparently Hunt thought he needed to have a better fragrance in the huddle in order to win the starting job this fall.

4. SAVING CASH

The Insight Bowl in Arizona has reportedly lost its title sponsor. Considering that no one ever figured out what Insight Enterprises did, you'd have to say its money wasn't well spent.

5. WE WERE NUMBER ONE

The WPS, the women's pro soccer league, is suspending operations as it deals with legal issues. Just our luck -- the area finally gets a championship team, and the whole league closes a few months later.
