He spent the last ten years of his career living in Tucson, AZ, where he retired from American after twenty-eight years, the last three of which he captained 767s to various European cities. From the desert, he moved to Franklin, TN, where he re-married in 2003. He and his wife Margaret enjoyed traveling, gardening and becoming grandparents. They were members of and very supported by St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Jim also enjoyed flying model airplanes, birding, and researching family history. Throughout his life, Jim was known for his willingness to help and encourage, his breadth of knowledge, his love of nature, and a general curiosity about the world around him. Jim was a master tinkerer and problem solver who found great satisfaction in any challenge. He enjoyed building two airplanes, two cars and a greenhouse, among other projects.
