Wayne L. Schneckenberger of Elma, a retired, self-employed building contractor, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital. He was 80.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of East Aurora High School. He was self-employed as a building contractor for L.J. Schneckenberger and Son from 1951 until his retirement in 1993.
Mr. Schneckenberger was a past president of the Niagara Frontier Horsemen's Association, a lifetime member and past president of the Western New York Quarter Horse Club and a past president of the Erie County Fair Horse Show. He was a 4-H leader for more than 20 years and, as a breeder of golden retriever dogs, he was a member of the Golden Retriever Club of Western New York.
Mr. Schneckenberger was a member of Elma United Methodist Church, 2991 Bowen Road, Elma.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Arlene R. Thering; two daughters, Lynda Bessey and Lorna McCormick; three sons, Lawrence, Lance and Lee; and a sister, Kay Hughes.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Elma United Methodist Church.
