Restoration celebrated

Corpus Christi Church, 189 Clark St., will celebrate the restoration of "The Disputa" mural above the altar in the church sanctuary during the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Jan. 8.

The 1920s mural by Marian Rzeznik and Gonippo Raggi has been undergoing a significant restoration by art conservator Roman Kujawa since March.

The mural, a rendering of Renaissance painter Raphael Santi's masterpiece in the Vatican, also will get new lighting.


Play to be presented

"Mother Cabrini's Mission to America," a multimedia play about the first American saint, Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, will be presented at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 8 in Holy Family Church, 1885 South Park Avenue, and again at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in St. Ambrose Church, 65 Ridgewood Road.

The hourlong play was written by Joan Albarella and will be presented by Jackie Albarella.

Cabrini worked with Italian immigrants and orphans, and she visited Buffalo and Niagara Falls in 1892. She was canonized in 1946.


New website launched

The Bible Society of Western New York, 2561 Main St., has launched a new website,, which includes a free daily Bible reading guide.

The 164-year-old organization sells Bibles for reduced rates and offeres discounts for large lot purchases.


Memorial Mass held

A memorial Mass will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 21 in Bishop Timon -- St. Jude High School auditorium to remember deceased alumni and family members.

The Rev. John Alderson will be principle celebrant. A reception will be held following the Mass.
