4. VACATION PLAN

The Chicago Cubs were one of several major league teams to put in a bid for Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish. The Texas Rangers won the bidding, even though the Cubs guaranteed Darvish he would have every October off.

5. SECOND BEST

Mavericks forward Shawn Marion says the Mavericks are not getting their due respect for winning the NBA championship last season. Maybe he was referring to the NBA's Christmas Day promotion: "LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh defend their runner-up title against the Mavericks."
