Q: How many of the cast members of "It's a Wonderful Life" are still alive?
-- John Richards, Orange, Calif.
A: The most significant is Karolyn Grimes, who played Zuzu, one of the children of George and Mary Bailey (James Stewart, Donna Reed). Invariably, she makes appearances each holiday season, as she has this month in the Turner Classic Movies documentary "A Night at the Movies: Merry Christmas!"
Grimes also is a frequent guest at theatrical showings of the Frank Capra-directed classic, and she maintains a connection to a museum of memorabilia from the film in Seneca Falls, N.Y. She has another seasonal favorite in her list of acting credits "The Bishop's Wife," starring Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young.
Q: In the movie "Network," a Kathy Cronkite is listed as the actress who plays the Patty Hearst-like heiress working with radicals. Is she any relation to Walter Cronkite?
-- Paul Stevens, Denver
A: She is, indeed, one of the offspring of the late CBS News legend. In fact, her father was a good friend of the director of "Network," Sidney Lumet who passed away last spring and had, in his days of directing television, worked with her father on the program "You Are There."
