Business People; Hires, promotions and honors

The New York Health Plan Association elected Donald Ingalls chair of its board of directors for the 2012-13 term. Ingalls is vice president, state and federal relations for HealthNow New York (Blue-Cross BlueShield of Western New York). The New York Health Plan Association was founded in 1984 to foster the development of HMOs in New York and seeks to ensure the managed care perspective is presented in ongoing discussions about New York's health care system.

Delaware North Companies promoted David Pytak to senior director of corporate accounting and controller. Pytak, a CPA, joined the company more than 20 years ago and most recently was director of accounting and reporting. He is a Canisius College graduate. Also, the company named RajatShah vice president of corporate development and external affairs and SteveEden director of culinary and hospitality. Shah most recently was the CEO and president at SMS Advisory Services. He has served in various executive roles, including senior vice president of corporate development and general counsel for Seneca Gaming Corporation. Shah graduated from Gettysburg College and earned a law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law. Eden previously was the company's director of corporate communications, a position he held since joining the company in 2005.He is a graduate of Missouri State College. In addition, Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services named Kevin O'Connor chief operating officer. O'Connor will oversee the Delaware North subsidiary's airport and travel plaza operations. Most recently, O'Connor headed his own hospitality consulting firm, Best Practices, based in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Fidelis Care, the New York State Catholic Health Plan, named Ruth McManus vice president of human resources. She will be based out of Fidelis Care's new Western Regional Operations Center and Offices located in Getzville. Previously, McManus headed human resources for Uni-Select, USA Inc., an after market auto parts distributor headquartered in Montreal, Canada and served as the assistant director of Human Resources for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. She graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati.

J. Fitzgerald Group, a marketing technology company based in Lockport, appointed Doug Bailey controller, Karen Gerken art director and Brad Smrcina IT solutions engineer. Bailey is a graduate of Niagara University. He most recently was controller at Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston. Gerken has been a freelance graphic designer during the last decade following her work as an associate art director at Quinlan & Company in Amherst. She graduated from Texas Christian University. Smrcina last served as CIO/senior director of IT with Incentium of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Northtown Automotive Cos. appointed Michael Ahern chief marketing officer. Ahern most recently was director of the Entercom Marketing Results Group for 11 years at Entercom Buffalo. WellsFargoAdvisors appointed Douglas M. Druzbikvice president-investments in the Williamsville branch. DDruzbik, a certified financial planner, has focused on portfolio management for nearly 12 years. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University at Buffalo.

Atwal Eye Care/Buffalo Eye Care Associates appointed Dr. Ephraim Singh Atwal an ophthalmologist and cataract/refractive surgeon. Dr. Atwal received his medical degree at Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland, and was awarded a research fellowship at Louisiana State University. He completed his internal medicine internship at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and completed his residency at the Louisiana State University Ochsner Ophthalmology Program in New Orleans.
