A Buffalo man has been arrested in connection with a November homicide in Cheektowaga.
Rocky Jones, 27, of Parkview Terrace, has been charged with the slaying of Armod R. Law, a Buffalo liquor store owner.
Investigators, however, remain tight-lipped about the details of the case as the investigation continues.
"This is one arrest," Police Chief David J. Zack said Wednesday. "We're by no means finished here."
Law, 37, owner of Rashad's Liquors on Broadway, was shot in the head Nov. 12 in his home on West Grand Boulevard in Cheektowaga. Two others in the home were not harmed.
At the time, police called the crime a violent home invasion and were looking for two male suspects. There also were questions about whether Law was targeted by his killers, but Zack put an end to that speculation Wednesday.
"We strongly believe he was targeted," Zack told The Buffalo News. "This was not a random home invasion. They knew who was there and what they were looking for."
Zack announced the arrest Wednesday afternoon during a brief news conference in Cheektowaga Town Hall.
The chief said detectives arrested Jones late Tuesday night and charged him with second-degree murder. Jones was arraigned before Town Justice Dennis Delano and jailed in the Erie County Holding Center.
Zack said Jones is known to law enforcement, but he would not elaborate at the news conference. Cheektowaga detectives received assistance in the case from the Erie County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Attorney's Office.
"We had a break in the case approximately two weeks ago," Zack said. "Since that time, we've been dotting the i's and crossing the t's. These detectives you see behind me have been working tirelessly, especially the last 24 hours."
Zack would not discuss motive or go into other details, but he hinted that at least one more arrest is expected.
"The investigation into this murder is far from over," the chief said.
