The Freudig Singers have completed its second annual Freudig Singers International Choral Composition Competition. Sixty-three pieces of music came in from around the world from three continents, eight countries and 21 states.
The winner is "Here's To The Music" by Steve Murray of Massachusetts and his piece is the centerpiece of this weekend's Freudig Singers concert.
Three runner-up winners will also be performed: "The Everlasting Voices," by Ivan Bozicevic of Croatia; "Sunrise" by Valerie Showers Crescenz of Pennsylvania; and "Samson" by Jeffrey Cobb of Michigan.
Judging were composers Roland Martin, director of the Freudig Singers; Persis Vehar, Canisius College composer-in-residence; and Marty Wimmer, Depew Public Schools music teacher and WNED-FM program host. "We're thrilled that we can offer this wonderful opportunity to composers, performers and our beloved audience members," Wimmer says. "We hope that our competition will continue to grow with each passing year."
The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Buffalo Seminary (205 Bidwell Parkway). Admission is $12 in advance and $15 at the door, with discounts for students and seniors. For info, call 667-7088.
