Justine D. Price, Ph.D., associate professor of fine arts and director of the art history department at Canisius College, died Monday in her Buffalo home. She was 42.
Dr. Price, who was born in Newark, N.J., earned a bachelor's degree at Bryn Mawr College, and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
She came to Canisius in 2005 and was an active member of the campus community. In addition to teaching art history, she taught seminars in the All-College Honors Program.
She was also active in the Faculty for Study Abroad Programs, participated in the London-Metropolitan Study Abroad Seminar for Canisius students in 2010 and the Ignatian-based Kairos retreats with fellow faculty, students and staff.
Dr. Price was fluent in French and was a passionate and articulate advocate of the role of fine arts in liberal education. She was also a booster of the Golden Griffins hockey team, some of whose members she taught in her art history classes.
She is survived by her father, Jim Price; her mother, Gail Addiss; her stepmother, Mara Novak; and a sister, Jami.
Services will be scheduled in Montclair, N.J., and later on the college campus.
