Dr. Frank Vastola, a retired Amherst physician, died Saturday at his home in Liberty Residence, Wadsworth, Ohio. He was 95.
Born in Buffalo, he studied at West Seneca High School, the University of Buffalo and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He served in the Army Band during World War II, playing stateside and entertaining with the USO.
After his discharge, Dr. Vastola earned his medical degree in 1949 and interned at Arts Center Hospital in Detroit. He began his private practice in 1951 in Amherst and retired in 1981. He moved to Florida and later Ohio.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Cary F.; two daughters, Bonnie Y. Trease and Sally L. Fracasso; a sister, Violet Frost; and two brothers, Anthony and Charles.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home, 8630 Transit Road, East Amherst.
