GALLO, Leopold L.

GALLO - Leopold L. A retired Construction Superintendent, died October 22, 2011 in Veterans Hospital at the age of 90. Mr. Gallo was the son of the late Gennaro and Josephine (Fragale) Gallo and lived all his life in Lancaster, NY where he was born and raised. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II for three years, where he learned to speak Hindi fluently and was an interpreter. After returning from the war, he attended UB under The GI Bill and earned a Masters Degree in Education. He formed Deplan Contracting with his brothers and worked on many construction projects in WNY. He also served on the Lancaster School Board for 10 years. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, the former Carmen Caliguiri; a daughter, Joann T. Gallo; three sons, Paul J. (Kathleen), Donald D. (Marcia) and John; he was predeceased by son, James O. in 1980; also grandchildren, Adrienne Gallo-Bruner (Aaron), Marissa Gallo and Jenna Gallo; great-grandchildren, Nina and Renzo Gallo (Bruner). He is also survived by brother, Orlando (Alice) Gallo and sister, Martha (late Anthony) Celeste and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Guadagnino and brothers, Marvin, Michael (Mary), James and Richard (Ann). Family will receive relatives and friends at the WENDEL & LOECHER, INC. FUNERAL HOME, 27 Aurora St., Lancaster, Monday 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, Depew, Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM. Please assemble at the church.
