Berardi leads Clarence boys soccer

Chris Berardi scored a minute into overtime as the Clarence boys soccer team edged Erie, Pa., power Cathedral Prep, 1-0. The Cathedral Prep goalie made the initial save and Berardi was there to drill the rebound into the net. Cathedral Prep entered the game undefeated in its last 14 games.

Clarence coach Mike Silverstein said the goalies on both sides made huge saves. The Red Devils' Hunter Hein had seven saves helping his team improve to 12-4 overall. Kenny May and Zach Zabel led the Red Devils' defense that tightened in the second half.

"It was a tale of two halves. The first half they kind of took it to us and then in the second we took control," said Silverstein. "We had a number of chances and couldn't finish and we finally won it in overtime."
