Kessel extended his NHL lead in goals and points on a night where Toronto appeared headed for its first regulation loss after falling behind 3-1 midway through the second period. He has seven goals and 12 points in five games.

New Jersey Devils: Goaltender Martin Brodeur will miss seven to 10 days with an injury to his right shoulder. Brodeur was hurt last Thursday making a save in the first period of a game against the Los Angeles Kings.

AHL: Former New York Ranger forward Sean Avery has reported to the AHL's Connecticut Whale and practiced with the team on Wednesday. The noted agitator was assigned to Hartford after clearing waivers on Oct. 5, freeing up $1.93 million from the Rangers' salary cap.
