Jackie Greene was an early bloomer.
He started out playing piano and guitar and singing at open mics in California at the tender age of 14. By the time he turned 25, Greene was playing Grateful Dead songs in one of Dead bassist Phil Lesh's strongest lineups of his ongoing Phil & Friends project.
By now, at age 30, Greene has played with the likes of Gov't Mule, Buddy Guy, Ratdog, B.B. King and Taj Mahal, in addition to releasing six solo albums -- the latest of which, "Till the Light Comes," offers a deft blend of rootsy musical heft and pop smarts.
Greene arrives for a show at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Tralf Music Hall (622 Main St.). Tickets are $15 advance and $17 on the day of the show (box office, Ticketmaster).
