Behind the Scenes

The Buffalo Architecture Foundation Inc. announces the organization's first event and fundraiser, Fall for Architecture, from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Tri-Main Center (2495 Main St.). The event includes live music, food and drinks as well as highlighting submissions for the "Building Stories" program featuring personal Western New York architecture. Tickets are $49. Auditions

*Auditions for "Scrooge the Musical" will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for actors ages 10 and up in the Palace Theatre (2 East Ave., Lockport). Bring sheet music, a prepared song and dance attire. Performances are Dec. 1-4. For more information, email info@lockportpalacetheatre.org.

*The Kenan Center will hold a group audition at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Kenan Arena (195 Beattie Ave., Lockport), for a musical performance of "The Secret Garden" as part of a weeklong residency with the Missoula Children's Theatre. Fifty to 60 students in grades K-12 are expected to be cast. No previous experience or preparation is necessary. Performances are at 3 and 7 p.m. Oct. 15. Calls for Work

*Vanover Fine Arts is seeking artists to submit works for the Springville Fall Art Crawl. The exhibition, which will coincide with the Ellicottville Fall Festival, will be on view at area stores as well as each of two gallery spaces. Artists should submit a minimum of two to three images of work to be considered along with a brief biography including schooling and previous exhibitions. The title, dimensions, medium and price of each artwork should be included. Submissions should be emailed to info@vanoverfinearts.com. Entries will be accepted through Tuesday. *The National Museum of Play at the Strong in Rochester invites artists at least 16 years of age to submit an application for the Whimsical Art Trail, a display of artistic works showcased at various locations throughout the museum's galleries for three months. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 10. Selected works will be on display from Feb. 18 through May 20.

Art must be family friendly, original, imaginative, joyful, playful, safe for guests and museum artifacts, nonperishable and whimsical (in form or function). If art is interactive, it must be user-friendly and durable. Applications must be submitted along with an artist statement (typed and 150 words or less) and one or two images of each piece of submitted art for up to six pieces. Images can be photographs or digital images on CD or DVD and must be labeled with the artist's name and title of work. Digital images are preferred. *The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is accepting submissions for its annual awards program, which honors the outstanding, creative works of individuals in preserving and propagating the history, traditions and culture of the Marine Corps. Categories include historical scholarship, journalism and letters and arts for a total of 14 awards. The deadline for submission is Dec. 31.
