AUTHOR TALK: David Dachauer, a first-time author and Buffalo State College Campus Services employee, will take about his recently published novel, "Tether Me Not," at 7 p.m. today at Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave. Dachauer's book was inspired by the spiritual questioning and grief he experienced after the unexpected death of his wife, Jennifer, in 2010.

RUMMAGE SALE: The Women's Fellowship of Kenmore United Church of Christ will hold its fall rummage sale from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday. There will be a $1 bag sale special on Friday. The sale will be held in the church hall, 295 Delaware Road.

CHARITY BENEFIT: The 18th annual Hope for Tomorrow Foundation's Charity Benefit will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the new Grand Ballroom at Salvatore's Italian Gardens, 6461 Transit Road in Depew. The benefit will honor best-selling author Ken Timmerman, Ellicott Development Co. Chief Executive Officer Carl Paladino and philanthropist J.D. Crane. Tickets are $90 per person. PET EXPO AND ADOPTION EVENT: Maddie's Pet Rescue Project Pet Expo and Super Adoption Event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Fairgrounds Event Center in Hamburg. It offers the chance to shop for toys and treats or to adopt a new member of the family from one of 20 area rescue groups.
