GORACKE, Leo U.

GORACKE - Leo U. Of West Seneca, NY, September 23, 2011, born in St. Mary, NE, October 29, 1916 to Frank Goracke, Jr. and Caroline Lempke. He came to Western New York in 1938 to live with an aunt and uncle in West Valley. He began a 40 year career with Ford Motor Company at the Buffalo Assembly and Woodlawn Stamping Plants in 1939. A veteran of WWII, Leo served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. A platoon commander in Battalion #752, he was among the first to land in England and participated in the North African and Italian campaigns earning a Silver Star, Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and a Presidential Citation for his heroic efforts. Resuming his career with Ford, he briefly lived in Buffalo. In 1947, he married Eleanor Bratos of Buffalo who preceded him in death. In 1952, they made their home in West Seneca where he lived until his death. He is survived by daughter, Barbara Lee Goracke (Paul H. Wesolowski, Jr.) of Arizona; and son, Terence Leo Goracke (Judith M. Coster); and two grandchildren, Mark Terence and Jennifer Marilyn Goracke of West Seneca, NY; also surviving him are brothers, Clarence and Virgil of Nebraska. An active member of Queen of Heaven Parish since its inception, Leo was also a member of VFW Post #8113 and The Knights of Columbus of St. Paul, NE.
