Jean E. Marchetta
1927-2011
A longtime resident of Eggertsville and Sanibel Island, Florida, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 after a long illness. Mrs. Marchetta graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in fine arts, and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was involved in many civic and charitable activities in Buffalo and on Sanibel Island, including the Deaconess Hospital Women's Guild, the Members' Gallery at the Albright Knox Art Gallery and the Collectors Club of the Burchfield Penney Art Center. She was an officer in the Gulf Ridge East neighborhood association on Sanibel Island. Mrs. Marchetta was also an avid traveler and visited many countries in South America, Europe, and Asia, including Greece, Peru, and China. In addition, she was fond of traveling with her family and frequently visited family members in California and the Adirondacks. Mrs. Marchetta was a member of the Buffalo Club, the Niagara Falls Country Club, and the Captiva Island Yacht Club. She was the wife of noted cancer surgeon Frank C. Marchetta, M.D., and is survived by her three children, Linda Wild, M.D. (Daniel), Charles Marchetta, DDS (Janet) and Joanne Marchetta, Esq. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Katherine Wild Ruminski (Christopher) and Michael Wild and Charles (Colleen), Jonathan (Allison) and Christine Marchetta, and numerous cousins and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's University Church, 3269 Main Street, Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dominican Sisters, 335 Doat Street, Buffalo, NY 14211 or to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife on Sanibel Island, Florida.
