Dennis J. Gaffney, a pharmacist, died unexpectedly Thursday in his Town of Tonawanda home. He was 58.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Gaffney spent much of his childhood growing up in Niagara Falls, where he graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1971.
He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Fredonia State College, and then a degree in pharmacy from the University at Buffalo in 1981.
Mr. Gaffney worked at many local pharmacies during his career, including Wurlitzer Pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy and Peterson's Drug Store in Williamsville.
Most recently, he worked as supervising pharmacist for more than 20 years at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Buffalo.
Mr. Gaffney was an avid boater, swimmer, bicyclist, golfer and tennis player. He sponsored a child overseas through Child Fund.
Mr. Gaffney is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Patricia Blackwood; two sons, Christopher S. and Matthew W.; two sisters, Kathleen Shea and Patricia K.; and three brothers, Lawrence, Terrance and Brian.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Christopher Catholic Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.
