Piano 'Gift'

The Buffalo Chamber Music Society gets under way this week with a free Gift to the Community concert Sunday by promising young pianist Benjamin Moser at 3 p.m. in Kleinhans Music Hall's Mary Seaton Room.

Moser's program begins with Beethoven's Variations on an Original Theme in F, Op. 34, and continues with Brahms' rhapsodic Four Pieces, Op. 118. He then moves into full-blown, star-crossed Romantic virtuosity with Liszt's arrangement of the "Liebestod" from Wagner's "Tristan and Isolde," and two excerpts from Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet." The recital ends with Prokofiev's Seventh Sonata.

This season's Gift to the Community concerts also feature preconcert performances at 2:15 p.m. Sunday by students from the BRAVO International Chamber Music Workshop. The students will be presenting movements from trios by Beethoven, Saint-Saens and Piazzolla.
