1. TIME FOR A NEW RIDE
Terrell Owens was given three traffic tickets in Los Angeles this week, including one for over-tinted windows on his 2003 VW Beetle. A 2003 Volkswagon? Was T.O.'s '97 Saturn in the shop?
2. GRAND SLAM NIGHT
Saturday night's Oklahoma State-Tulsa football game didn't end until 3:35 a.m. Sunday because of delays caused by bad storms. On the plus side, a waitress at a Tulsa Denny's set a record for largest number of tips in the 4 to 6 a.m. shift.
3. SOMETHING TO CHEW ON
Former Dodgers manager Tom Lasorda gave a pep talk to the UCLA football team before Saturday's game. The Bruins didn't win, but they did clean their plates of pasta in the pregame meal.
4. PERISCOPE DOWN
The Virginia Commonwealth basketball team spent the first week of practice undergoing Navy SEAL training. That may not help its shooting much, but the Rams are expected to be really, really good at diving for loose balls.
5. NICE TO MEET YOU
This season's Sabres team played its first preseason game Monday night after taking to the ice for the first time on Saturday morning. Maybe that's why the players were introducing themselves to each other before the opening faceoff.
